Suggested films #3

Exclusive: Paris

Vivre sa Vie (1962, Jean-Luc Godard)

The film stars Anna Karina, as Nana, a beautiful Parisian in her early twenties who deliberately leaves her husband and her infant son hoping to become an actress. Without money, beyond what she earns as a shopgirl, and unable to enter acting, she elects to earn better money as a prostitiute. Nana's short life on film is told in 12 brief episodes each preceded by a written resume.
Beautiful piece of cinema with a gentle, elegant sadness. Anna Karina's performance here is one of the great female lead performances in cinema. Unforgettable.

"The more one talks, the less the words mean."

Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain

Amélie is a shy waitress in a Montmartre café. After returning a long-lost childhood treasure to a former occupant of her apartment, and seeing the effect it has on him, she decides to set out on a mission to make others happy and in the meantime pursues a quirky guy who collects discarded photo booth pictures
A pleasant and beautiful film to watch with cute details everywhere. It has a beautiful cinematography and an intriguing and layered storyline.

"I like to look for things no one else catches. I hate the way drivers never look at the road in old American movies."

Before Sunset

Jesse, a writer from the US, and Celine, a Frenchwoman working for an environment protection organization, acquainted nine years ago on the train from Budapest to Vienna, meet again when Jesse arrives in Paris for a reading of his new book. As they have only a few hours until his plane leaves, they stroll through Paris, talking about their experiences, views and whether they still love each other, although Jesse is already married with a kid.
Great performances, with fantastic and interesting conversations. It has a peculiar atmosphere that makes it a perfect sequel.

"Life's hard. It's supposed to be. If we didn't suffer, we'd never learn anything."

Nós só começámos a escrever em inglês devido ao facto de termos muitos visitantes estrangeiros, mais que portugueses. Mas agora chegamos à conclusão que escrever em português é capaz de ser melhor. :D
